Khalid Donnel Robinson or better known as Khalid is one of the rising talents of the R&B music scene. The American singer and songwriter has been dominating the music industry with his infectious and addictive music. Signed to Right Hand Music Group and RCA Records, his career has been inspiring and remarkable. Having released several super-hit tracks which include “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke”, he has been certified as Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Born in Fort Stewart, Georgia, Khalid spent his childhood in various locations due to his mother and father’s military careers, which included Fort Campbell in Kentucky, Fort Drum in Watertown, New York, and six years in Heidelberg, Germany. When Khalid was in high school, he learned singing and musical theatre. He attended the Carthage Central High School in Carthage, New York, for his first three years of high school and later his mother moved him to El Paso, Texas, where he attended Americas High School for his senior year. And throughout his schooling career, Khalid was writing and creating music. He even posted his early works to Sound Cloud.
Soon after graduating from high school, Khalid reached number two on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists Chart in July 2016. His single “Location” began charting, which eventually led to him being featured in many popular publications which included Billboard, Yahoo, Rolling Stone, and many more. And eventually, his track “Location” was featured at number twenty on the US Mainstream R&B/Hip-hop Chart and also reached the Top ten on the US Hot R&B Songs Chart in January 2017. Gradually, Khalid honed and perfected his craft and released his debut album “American Teen” which went on to become a super-hit with tracks such as “Young Dumb & Broke”. Later that year he was also featured on Logic’s US top ten single with Alessia Cara, which earned him a Grammy Award for Song of the Year nomination.
Having had a remarkable career in a relatively short span of time and releasing several solid hit tracks like “Love Lies”, with Normani, “Eastside” with Benny Blanco and Halsey, and many more, he has created and given the R&B music scene some truly mesmerizing music. In 2019, his second studio album “Free Spirit” was also a success and was featured on the Billboard 200 Chart. And his lead single from the album “Talk” earned him a Grammy Award for Record of the Year nomination. Having received several prestigious awards which include six Grammy Award Nominations, six Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award, he is an incredibly talented artist with music embedded within his soul.
